John D. Valentine Award for Teaching Excellence
In the spring of 2003, as a special tribute to the memory of John D. Valentine, the Churchill Center & School’s Board of Trustees created the John D. Valentine Award for Teaching Excellence. This award was developed to honor John as well as to celebrate his high regard for teachers.

Each year this award is given to a Churchill teacher who exemplifies the best of teaching. Colleagues select a recipient who possesses Competence, Caring and Courage. He or she must foster Competence by holding high expectations to help each child reach their full potential. Their Caring or “having heart” is evident in all of their interactions with students, their colleagues and parents. Their Courage is the ultimate integration of values, skills and social concern in action. They exemplify to our students that the best course of action is based upon what we know in our heads and feel in our hearts.
