At Churchill Center & School we strive to give students new confidence and
pride in the role they play in their education. We work towards empowering
them with the tools they need to succeed.
Tutorial
The individual tutorial is designed to:
- provide a 1:1 student-teacher setting
- remediate academic areas in reading, reading comprehension, spelling, handwriting, written language or math
Auditory - Visual
The purpose of auditory-visual is to:
- enhance a student’s auditory and visual skills necessary for academic tasks including memory, sequencing, reasoning and fine-motor skills
- help a student gain a better understanding of his learning style
Math
The math curriculum is designed to:- develop and maintain basic mathematical concepts, computation and application of skills
- fill in the gaps of missing information that students with learning disabilities often display
Language Arts
The language arts curriculum is designed to enable a student to:- become a more capable writer
- use language more effectively and efficiently
- be better prepared to succeed in situations that require writing
- focus upon composition, literature, grammar and language usage
Social Studies
The social studies curriculum facilitates the development of skills to: - read, understand, and interpret graphic materials
- effectively use a textbook, develop note-taking skills and complete research projects
- utilize problem-solving and organizational skills to become effective and confident public speakers
Motor Skills
The objective of motor skills is to: - raise the level of the student’s general physical fitness through regular and structured activities which develop aerobic capacity, flexibility and strength
- develop perceptual motor skills
- provide skill training with quality practice experiences in a variety of team sports
Electives
The focus of electives is to: - provide skill work in games and activities that involve the basic components of communicating in front of an audience
- provide the opportunity to explore basic art elements
- plan and participate in movie production
- experience the basic fundamentals of science and the creation of hands-on projects
- develop social, emotional and physical well-being
- develop, research and educate through community-based projects
Technology
The purpose of keyboarding class is to:- instruct students in the fundamentals of touch-typing through sequential typing patterns
- provide experiences with creative, fast-paced drills to promote learning of the key location and finger placement
- emphasize individual learning and pacing
- provide experience creating multimedia presentations
- teach students basic html to produce a simple web page
- instruct students in specific techniques when searching for information on the Internet
- provide experience in planning, creating and editing digital movies
